Aug. 13, 2004 - 10:24 P.M. - gay marriage Mood -%%option1%% Current Music -%%option2%% I just read this article about all of the gay marriages that took place in San Francisco earlier this year being banned. I think it's terrible that so many people in this country are so freaking closed minded. I supposed I've always known this, but it just hadn't really clicked with me until recently. Some people at my work were talking today about how Gov. McGreevey came out of the closet yesterday. They said that him being gay was disgusting. I think they're disgusting. When the one boy at work told me he thought it would be terrible if I slept with a black man and I was already a bad person for kissing one I told him that he's a racist. He seemed ok and even proud of that fact and unwilling to change. Earlier this week the black guy at work that I have a crush on got beat up by some cops, basically, soley because he's black. There's a new black guy at work, but unfortunately he doesn't work in the kitchen so I have no reason to talk to him. He's really hot. I don't understand what the big deal is. I want to run for a political office some day and it makes me sick because I've come to the conclusion that I may not get voted into office because I am all for interracial dating and gay marriages. Except I don't understand why these issues are even issues. In my philosophy class we read John Stuart Mill's book: On Liberty. In his book Mill basically says that people should be allowed to do anything they please as long as it doesn't harm anyone else. When a person takes an action to harm someone else is the only time the government should be allowed to step in and stop them. Now someone please tell me how the hell a person's skin color being black harms someone else! Or how me kissing that person with black skin harms anyone. Or how two men or women falling in love and wanting to share that with the world harms anyone. If someone truely and honestly believes that God does not want people to be gay or whatever, then fine, they're entitled to their beliefs, but let God handle it. I mean there are gonna be gay people whether they're allowed to get married or not so why not just let them get married? The only reason the stupid government doesn't legalize it is because they don't want to give out tax breaks to all those couples. Well the government needs to stop being bastards and start using some good sense.
